(Richmond, Va.: Organ Historical Society, 1997). - Samuel-Marie Casavant was the son of Joseph C. Casavant, brother of Joseph-Claver Casavant Jr., and father of Aristide Casavant. He and his brother apprenticed with their father's successor, Eusèbe Brodeur of Saint-Hyacinthe, Canada. He was in France, 1879; he established Casavant Frères Ltée. of Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada with his brother, Joseph-Claver, in 1879, and became the first tonal director for the firm.
