Chant was listed as an organbuilder at Henry Chant-s address in the Chicago city directory for 1870, but "he probably only helped in woodworking.†He was listed as a carpenter in the directories for 1871, 1872, and 1873; he was listed in the 1874 directory, but apparently no occupation was stated. -Ed.]
