2018-12-18/2019-02-11 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, May 19, 2018. - Henry "Cocky" Charles was a salesman for American Photo Player Co. of Berkeley, California. Harold J. Werner was the president of the Photo Player firm, which made small stock-model theater organs of two to five ranks. Werner noted the growth of the "palaceâ€-type theaters seating over a thousand patrons; these huge spaces required far larger organs than anything Photo Player could build in its factory. Werner began a search for a larger production facility, and his top salesman, Henry "Cocky" Charles, discovered that the California Organ Co. in Van Nuys was for sale. Photo Player bought the business and renamed it Robert-Morton. It became the facility where Photo Player built larger custom theater organs under the Robert-Morton label while continuing to build smaller stock models with the Photo Player nameplate.
