Edited for the revised OHS Online Database website, 2017. - Walter S. Coburn shared a residence with Calvin and Charles F. Coburn (cousin). He was with the Hutchings Organ Co. of Boston, Massachusetts. He worked as a bookkeeper; then as an organbuilder in the Boston area, 1881-1887. He moved and was with the Roosevelt firm branch shop in Baltimore, Maryland, 1889, manager. Returning to the Boston area, 1890-1892, he worked again as a bookkeeper, then as a draftsman. Coburn moved to the Midwest and established W. S. Coburn & Co. of Chicago, Illinois, by 1896. This was followed by a partnership with George Taylor as Coburn & Taylor of Chicago, c. 1900-1909. After the partnership ended, he established Coburn Organ Co. of Chicago. Walter Coburn died 21 November, 1934, at age 70. His company was succeeded by Temple & Howard of Chicago.
