2004-10-30/2019-09-03 - From the OHS Database Builders Listing editor, November 28, 2016. - Paul Fischer started with the Tellers Organ Co. of Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1953. He became superintendent of the factory and was with the firm when the factory was sold to Lawrence Phelps in 1972; Fischer stayed on as superintendent with Phelps and Associates from 1972 until 1978 when the firm closed. He then established Paul E. Fischer Pipe Organ Sales & Service of Erie, Pennsylvania, 1978 as a service firm. The business gradually expanded its services, and the name was changed to Fischer Organ Company to reflect its broader range of services including enlargement and restoration of existing instruments. Paul was semi-retired until 2016 when the firm closed, the business was operated by his son, Mark Fischer. Paul Fischer used the time after his retirement from daily operation of his firm to write a book, Making Music, the History of the Organ and Piano Industries in Erie, Pennsylvania, which was published in 2016.
