2015-08-24/2019-02-11 - From the OHS PC Database Builders Listing editor, updated March 8, 2016 - Frederic Basil Austin was born September 8, 1903 in Irchester, England; he was the son of Harry W. Austin, and father of Donald B. Austin. He immigrated to the U. S. in 1920. He was with the family firm of Austin Organ Co. When the firm experienced financial problems during the depression of the 1930s, he and his cousin Basil f. Austin purchased most of the assets of the firm and reorganized as Austin Organs Inc. of Hartford, Connecticut. This was the successor firm of Austin Organ Co. established by his uncles John T. Austin and Basil G. Austin in 1899. He was president of the new firm from its inception in 1937 until 1972, when he stepped down and was replaced by his son, Donald B. Austin.
