Notes

2004-10-30/2019-04-29 - Note from the OHS PC Database, derived from A Guide to North American Organbuilders, by David H. Fox (Organ Historical Society, 1991). Edited for the revised OHS Online Database website, 2017. - Herbert R. Gottfried was the son of Anton and Regina Gottfried; brother of Henry A. Gottfried. He was with the family firm, A. Gottfried & Co., in Erie, Pennsylvania. Fox gives the date 1929, probably based on the date of the patent. The patent was filed on December 17, 1927, however, pushing the date back, assuming that he had at least two years of experience working with pipes prior to filing the patent, he may have started in 1925 or earlier. Patent held: Patent #1,716,630; 11 Jun. 1929; pipe voice adjuster.   Source: Diapason: Apr. 1949, 1. Text of United States Patent #1,716,630; 11 Jun. 1929.
