Fox (Richmond, Va.: Organ Historical Society, 1991). - Born c. 1861 in Alton, Illinois; son of Joseph Gratian, father of Elwood Gratian and Warren Burke Gratian; studied building in England, for 3 years; with his father's firm in Alton, Illinois; incorporated a firm in Des Moines, Iowa, with William W. Witmer and William H. Lehman, 1892; returned to Alton in 1895 to be partner in his father's firm, formed Gratian Organ Co., Alton, Illinois; succeeded his father; with Wicks Pipe Organ Co. of Highland, Illinois; representative of Estey Organ Co. of Brattleboro, Vermont; died December 12, 1933 in Alton, Illinois, age 72.
