2016-08-21/2019-02-11 - From the OHS Database Builders Listing editor. - August Bach was born in the German Confederation in 1845. He and his wife Dorthea immigrated to the U.S. in 1881. He was active in the organ business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1882 so it is assumed he had some prior training in Europe. He is still listed as living in Philadelphia in the 1900 census, but no longer listed anywhere in the 1910 census. No death record for August or Dorthea has been found during that period, they may have returned to Europe. Sources: Unitec States 1890 Census Record. David Fox, A Guide to North American Organbuilders (Organ Historical Society, 1997), 59. Unitec States 1900 Census Record.
