2015-09-24/2019-04-29 - From the OHS PC Database Builders Listing Editor, updated Mar. 3, 2016 with information from sources listed below - Alfred Hillgreen (1859-1923) was an Swedish1 organ builder who immigrated to the United States in 1881. He worked with several established companies: Hillstrom Reed Organ Co. of Chesterton, Indiana for five years; Lancashire-Marshall firm of Moline, Illinois; and Salem Church Organ Co. of Salem, Ohio. While in Salem, he apparently traveled to do installations, the local paper reported "Alfred Hillgreen went to Port Huron, Michigan, this morning, to erect an organ at that place for the Barekhoff [sic] Organ Company."2 In 1898, he joined with Charles Alva Lane and Silas S. Williams to form Hillgreen, Lane & Co. of Alliance, Ohio. The firm remained in business for three quarters of a century, closing in 1973. Three generations of the Hillgreen family worked there: Alfred, Robert Sr., and Robert Jr.3 Sources: Starke County Death Records Salem Daily News, Salem, Ohio, January 18, 1892, 4. David H.
