2019-10-15/2019-10-15 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, October 14, 2019. — Excerpt from Eugene McCracken's article: A Mr. Sevill Schofield purchased the old organ* [from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the organ was mostly the work of Matthias Schneider, although it was completed by Phillip Bachman], and on February 2, 1878, he paid $600.00 for it. (Mr. Schofield operated a woolen mill in Manayunk.) Some of the expenses incidental to the sale were: commission to A. G. Ibach for its sale $50.00; advertising with N. W. Ayers, $17.50; Mr. Luckenbach for moving it, $6.00. (Augustus Ibach was another Philadelphia organ builder of many years' standing.) Sources: Eugene M.
