2019-09-18/2019-09-18 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, September 17, 2019. — Stephan Schumacher (1923-2002) was a cabinet maker who became an organbuilder, working and learning in shops in Belgium and Germany before starting his own firm in 1956. Although the firm made electrical key-action instruments initially, Schumaker switched to mechanical key-action in the 1960s with the encourgement of Professor Hubert Schoonbroodt. Guido Schumacher (born 1957) studied organ at the Liège Royal Music Conservatory and completed his art history and musicology studies at the University of Liège "maxima cum laude" for his thesis "Organ Building in Liège in the 18th Century – The Le Picard and Robustelly Dynasty". In 1981 he joins his father's business, becomes co-manager at the conversion into "Organbuilding Schumacher, Ltd." and became manager at the retirement of Stephan Schumacher in 1988. Guido Schumacher leads a team of 14 organbuilders and related craft specialists in building and restoring organs across Europe with one installation in the United States (St. Anthony of Padua, Fort Wayne, Indiana.)
