2018-05-07/2019-04-29 - Note from the Organ Database editor Steven Lawson, March 25, 2017. - "Historian Martin Walsh found that Muhl was born in Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany in 1824 and arrived in America in 1848, registering for the Civil War draft in June, 1863. He appears in the 1870 Census listed as a carpenter living in Zanesville, Ohio. He died in 1891." In 1873, he built a two-manual organ of 15 ranks for St. John's German Evangelical Protestant Church in Wheeling, West Virginia. Jim Lewis surmises that this is probably the only organ he built in the United States. Source: James Lewis, An American Organ Omnibus (Self-Published by Author, 2017) not paginated.
