Fox (Richmond, Va.: Organ Historical Society, 1991). — Born 1872 in Germany; father of Paul Klann; immigrated to the United States, 1898; with organ firm in San Francisco, California; with Kilgen firm of St. Louis, Missouri; In Pomeroy, Ohio; established Klann Organ Supply, electrical components, in Alliance, Ohio, 1916; relocated to Basic {Waynesboro}, Virgninia, 1918; died 1952; succeeded by his son, Paul Klann. Patents held: Patent #788,777; May 2, 1905; pneumatic windchest. Patent #1,699,363; 15 January 15, 1929; electropneumatic action. Patent #1,703,771; February 26, 1929; electropneumatic action. 2015-09-27/2019-09-19 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, September 19, 2019. — August Klann was a cabinet maker by trade, he started working for a pipe organ builder in San Francisco building organ cases and cabinets. After the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, he moved to Alliance, Ohio where he started Klann Organ Supply in 1910. In 1916, he moved the business to Basic, Virginia (which later merged with Waynesboro) to be closer to his largest customer at the time, Barckhoff Organ Company.
