2018-05-07/2019-09-20 - Note from the Organ Database Builders Listing editor Stephen Hall, May 5, 2017. - Joseph Edwin Lee, Jr. Knoxville, Tennessee Joseph Edwin Lee, Jr., age 95, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully February 6, 2017, at the Westmoreland Health and Rehabilitation Center [Knoxville, Tennessee]. He was born in Moscow, Idaho and was raised in rural towns of North Dakota and Wisconsin. Joseph attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, graduating in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts. That same year he was recruited by the Tennessee Eastman Corporation of Knoxville becoming a chemistry major and a physics minor. He moved to Oak Ridge to participate in the secret Manhattan Project of World War II in 1944 as an electrical engineer. Along with his field of science, Joseph was a talented keyboard player of the piano and pipe organ. In the 1960s Mr. Lee began his own successful business, "Lee Organ Inc.", where he built, repaired and tuned hundreds of church organs located in East Tennessee, North and South Carolinas, and Alabama. Joseph Edwin Lee, Jr. was a Charter Member of the American Institute of Organbuilders, and a life long member of the American Guild of Organists, Knoxville Chapter.
