2019-10-12/2019-10-12 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, October 11, 2019. — Mark Lively, born in Cincinnati, Ohio began the study of music at an early age. College studies included art, history and electrical engineering. He established his own organbuilding firm in 1976 which was the first Company in the United States to utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) in the construction of pipe organs. He went on to consult on CAD design and voicing for other builders. In 1989, he took the position of Joint Tonal Director of J.W. Walker and Sons, an English firm that was established in 1828. Subsequently, he was appointed Artistic Director of this distinguished company. During the time of his work with Walker and Sons, M.W. Lively & Company Organbuilders continued to operate. During his association with the Walker firm, Lively met and worked with Paul Fulcher, Head Voicer and Tonal Director of Walker's, United Kingdom. Organ supplier, Patrick Quigley, of Houston, Texas, partnered with Mark Lively and Paul Fulcher to build a new, larger facility and formed the company QLF Custom Pipe Organ Components LLC. In April of 1998, Patrick, Mark, and Paul purchased a 10 acre tract in Rocky Mount, Virginia to build the new 10,000 square foot workshop. Patrick Quigley died in 2014, but the supply shop continued, with Patrick's son Jeremy who along with Thomas Rohlfs overseeing the operation of the shop. Using the resources of the QLF shop, Mark Lively and Paul Fulcher were able to expand their organ building activity in the United States producing organs under the Lively-Fulcher name.
