2019-10-21/2019-10-21 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, October 20, 2019. — Dates for when Parsons worked with the various Steere firms are conjectural: Parsons was born in 1865, he could have started an apprenticeship as early as age 14 which would have put him working in 1879 with Steer & Turner in that year when the firm relocated to Springfield. Steer & Turner became J. W. Steere* & Sons when Turner left in 1891, then J. W. Steere & Son in 1894 when Frank Steere left the firm, he firm was reorganized in 1917; and renamed Steere Organ Co. in 1919. Finally, the firm was acquired by Ernest M. Skinner in 1921 and merged into Skinner Organ Company. However, Skinner kept the factory in Springfield as a branch for a few years before closing it and consolidating operations in Boston. *The original family name was Steer, the Steers added an e at the end of their name around 1890, but apparently did not change the spelling on the nameplates until sometime latter.
