2018-05-07/2019-04-29 - From the OHS Online Organ Database, Builders Listing editor Stephen Hall, February 16, 2017. - Bynum Petty is a founding director of Petty-Madden Organbuilders. Trained as a musicologist, he spent much of his early career studying the historic organs of America, England and Europe. He has read papers at the annual conventions of the National Teachers of Music Association, the American Guild of Organists and the American Institute of Organbuilders and at various university organ conferences. He has served as consultant and artistic advisor to major academic institutions including the Lawrenceville School, Rutgers University and Colorado State University. Additionally, he is a regular contributor of articles, essays, and reviews that appear in The American Organist, The Tracker and the Journal of American Organbuilding. As an organ historian, he has written several books on organ building in America. His most recent publications are An Organ a Day: the Enterprising Spirit of M.P. Möller (2013) and Henry Pilcher-s Sons: Opus List and Historical Sketch (2014). In 2010, Bynum Petty was appointed Archivist of the Organ Historical Society, in which position he manages the O.H.S. Library & Archives in Princeton, New Jersey, the largest and most comprehensive organ research library in the world.
