Fox (Organ Historical Society, 1991). — George Washington Doane Pilcher was born 23 September, 1866 in Chicago, Illinois; the fourth son of William Pilcher; and a grandson of Henry Pilcher Sr. He started with his father's business, Pilcher Brothers of New Orleans, LA, in 1884 and was there until 1891. When William had to close the business, G.W.D. went to work for the Philip Werlein Co. of New Orleans, LA, 1896-1914, superintendent.He was next with Collins-Pilcher Piano Co., 1915-1916, vice president; and then with Louis Grunewald Music Co., 1917.
