2015-10-05/2019-02-11 - Note from the Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, June 6, 2017. - Born June 14, 1920, Son of Victor B. Schantz; brother of Bruce Schantz; Starting 1938, he attended Oberlin College on a scholarship awarded after he won a national piano competition for that scholarship. His education was interrupted in 1941, when he was drafted into the Army during World War II. After the war he returned to Oberlin College to complete his education financed by the GI Bill, graduating in 1947. There he completed his BA Degree in Music with a concentration in organ and piano studies. After graduating from college he joined his father, uncle, cousin, and brother at the Schantz Pipe Organ Company. He took over as the tonal director of the company, a position held earlier by his Uncle Edison Schantz, and served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the company while his brother Bruce was alive, later taking over as CEO of the company prior to his retirement in about 2003.
