2015-10-12/2019-11-10 - From Organ Database Builders editor Stephen Hall, October 10, 2015. — From a 2010 lecture by Jonathan Ortloff: Under Victor A. Schantz-s presidency, beginning in 1948 the firm did indeed expand in national scope, producing larger instruments farther afield from Orrville. In 1952 the firm announced the signing of its largest contract to date, and what would stand as its largest instrument for many years to come. Often cited as Schantz's magnum opus, the dual organ instrument for the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey, with 153 ranks, was certainly a coup as a major installation on the East Coast for a builder rarely heard outside the Midwest." material omitted] "The 60s and 70s saw Schantz-s presence expand modestly throughout the country, with new instruments from California to Massachusetts, and, with the fame of the Newark organ, a good number in New Jersey."
