Reich, "Builders Marks,� Tracker 2, no. 3 (April 1958): 6. The information there is as follows: "Newburyport, Mass., Greek Orthodox Church, formerly Second Presbyterian, E. & G. G. Hook, opus 261, 1859. On Hautboy, TC pipe, ‘Boston, Aug. 6, 1859, James L. Bickforth-. Three years later, in another article by the same author: "Robert J. Reich, "Fire!,� Tracker 6, no. 2 (January 1962): 1, 8, on Hook & Hastings opus 358 in the Congregational Church in Orwell, Vermont. On page 8, there is the following information: "The Oboe has parallel shallots, and the Keraulophon bears this notation: ‘Ker. Scale 52 F' - Jas. L. Bickford, Boston, March 16, 1865.-" This is almost certainly the same person as James L. Bickforth. As further evidence, Boston city directories of the period contain several references to "James L. Bickford, organ maker"; No person with the last name "Bickforth� is listed in any of the Boston directories of this period.
