2004-10-30/2020-04-09 - From the OHS PC Database, derived from A Guide to North America Organ Builders by David H. Fox (Organ Historical Society, 1991). -- Son of Samuel R. Warren, brother of Samuel P. Russell, father of Frank and Mansfield Russell; partner with father in S. R. Warren & Sons of Montreal, then Toronto, Canada, 1879; succeeded father, 1882; sold firm to Dennis W. Karn as Karn-Warren Organ Co., 1896, employed there; relocated to Rochester, NY. Charles S. Warren was part of the second generation of the Warren family of organ builders. His father, Charles D. Warren was an American by birth who had apprenticed with Thomas Appleton of Boston, MA. After completing his apprenticeship, Charles D. moved to Canada and set up his own firm in Montreal. Charles S. and his brother Samuel, joined their father in working at the firm. The firm relocated to Toronto, Ontario in 1879. Charles S. succeeded his father as head of the firm in 1882. He sold the firm to Dennis Karn in 1896, the new firm was called Karn-Warren, Charles stayed on as an employee, until he retired and moved to Rochester, NY.
