2018-05-07/2020-04-09 - From "R. Whiting" Obituary in Philly.com, accessed Oct 17, 2015 -- Robert B. Whiting, 78, a mathematics professor and an organist who collected and restored old parlor organs, died April 18, 1996. He continued as a church organist throughout his life. He also became fascinated with instruments themselves - especially old reed organs - and had a barn full of them on the 78-acre farm in Schwenksville where he spent several days a week. There, he studied, repaired and restored the instruments that he collected from all over the region. He became an authority and wrote a book, Estey Reed Organs on Parade, a pictorial history of the organ and the company that made it for more than 100 years. He had a succession of pipe organs, which he bought from congregations that didn't want them any more and set up in the barn. [He set up at least one in a church: St. Paul's Episcopal, Mount Vernon, WA, OHS ID 544] He was a member of the Organ Historical Society.
