Delvin: "The post-Civil War economy greatly diminished Henry Erben-s southern business, although he continued to build isolated instruments for southern congregations.[material omitted] Even as the South began to attain a measure of economic recovery, the nation as a whole, was plunged into the depression brought about by the "panic" of 1873, with the expected adverse effect on the business of all organ builders, Erben included.
