2018-05-07/2019-12-18 - From the OHS Database Builders editor, October 3, 2016. - Jesse (Jack) B. Bookhardt, Jr. was born in 1932 in Winter Park, Florida. After graduating Winter Park High School, he entered Rollins College, Winter Park, where he continued to study organ under the direction of Dr. Herman F. Siewert with whom he had begun instruction in seventh grade. He assisted in the installation of Aeolian-Skinner Opus 7505-A, and 7505-B at Rollins Chapel. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. Following his tour of duty, he returned to central Florida where he was briefly organist at an Episcopal church in Sanford, Florida, before accepting an offer from First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, Florida where he presided over a new 33 rank Moller from 1956 until his death in 1991. He did service work in central Florida; and built the organ for the Reformation Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in 1962. (This organ was later moved to St. James Cathedral in Orlando). He built his second organ for Christ the King Episcopal Church, Orlando, a third for Azalea Park Presbyterian church, and a smaller organ for his home. Mr. Bookhardt died July 11, 1991 in Colorado Springs, Colorado while on tour with the Boys Choir of First Presbyterian Church, Orlando. Sources: Mary Bookhardt. Stephen Hall.
