2016-05-23/2019-04-29 - From the OHS Database Builders Editor, May 19, 2016. - Orla Allen was part of the staff at the Aeolian-Votey firm of Detroit, Michigan.1 The firm closed in 1901 and Edwin Votey moved to Boston, Massachusetts and started a partnership with George Hutchings as Hutchings-Votey, Allen is not listed as part of the staff there. An Orla Allen is listed as an organist in the 1908 Lansing, Michigan directory; this may be the same person.2 It is not known where Allen was located until he appeared as an erector with the Austin Organ Co. of Hartford, Connecticut, in 1917.3 Sources: David Fox, A Guide to North American Organbuilders, (Organ Historical Society, 1991) 53. 1908 Lansing, Michigan directory.
