2024-04-08 - Updated through online information from Mark Backhaus: From the Albany, NY Knickerbocker Press, February 25, 1924 - Dedicated on February 24, 1924. Gift of George Clement Hawley in loving memory of his wife, Theodora. Millard Hawley. The organ was built by the Austin Organ company of Hartford , Conn., at a cost of nearly $17,000. It is a three manual organ with echo organ, cathedral chimes and celestial harp. It has thirty-five speaking stops with twenty-nine couplers and forty adjustable combination pistons, twelve of which direct the registration of the entire organ. It is controlled by electricity. The main section of the organ has been built in the front of the auditorium of the church, replacing the old organ. The front pipes are decorated with French leaf gold bronze artistically designed. The echo organ and the cathedral chimes are located In the gallery by the tower room and the celestial harp is In the choir organ. The opening recital on the Hawley memorial organ was given on February 27, 1924 by Elmer A. Tldmarsh, A.G.O., chorus director and organist. -Jim Stettner
