2005-01-07 - Information identifying this instrument from the Austin Organs, Inc. web site, accessed December 29, 2004: http://www.austinorgans.com/organ-research.htm. -Database Manager

2007-06-10 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ replaced an 1876 Steere & Turner, and was placed between the extant Steere & Turner twin cases. This was an Austin "Chorophone" and the four ranks were Diapason, Flute, Viola, and Dulciana. The 3-sectional Chorophone case had 27 gold pipes arranged: 5-17-5. It was rumored that the remaining mechanical portions of the Steere & Turner were flattened under the wheels of the Austin installation crew's truck - rendering the 1876 organ unrestorable. Andover has since rebuilt the Steere & Turner, and the Austin has been replaced. Its subsequent disposition is unknown. Sources: extant organ documented October 15, 1989. -Database Manager

NOTES
This organ was purchased to replace a 51 year old, 1876 Steere & Turner tracker. The
Austin was installed between the twin black walnut cases in the rear gallery. Legend
says that the Austin workmen ripped-out the Steere & Turner action and keydesk and
flattened it beneath the wheels of their truck.

After 61 years, the Austin was wearing-out and the parish was faced with what to do. The
Steer & Turner cases and manual windchests were extant along with the Pedal 16' Double
Open Diapason. The Austin really wasn't sufficient to their needs, so they elected to
sell the Austin and restore the Steere & Turner.

Subsequent placement of the Austin is unknown.
