2023-01-26 - This organ is in the former chapel of St Joseph's Convent in West Hartford, CT. The nuns moved out in 1978. The building reopened as an educational center for the Hartford Insurance Group, and now serves as an assisted living facility through Aviva Senior Living. The landmark building has been carefully preserved in its 115 years and is listed on the Register of Historic Places. Remarkably, the organ is in its orginal condition from 1908. A few pipes are damaged but none are missing, the orginal tubular system is still in place and undamaged and the original Spencer blower sits in the corner in its own brick enclosure. The main interior Austin airbox reservoir has come apart, silencing the organ, but all the orginal pneumatics are still intact. The pipework shows no signs of abuse, including the Oboe and the cone-tuned Great Octave. -Floyd Higgins
