2007-10-11 - Updated through on-line information from Tyler Ballou. -- The building was originally built sometime in the 1890s by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to hold church services in. However the organ wasn't installed until 1927 when the building was remodeled. The instrument was installed at a cost of approximately $9000. The organ has featured many artists including Alexander Schreiner. In 1976, the newly completed Teton Dam broke flooding the city and badly damaging the building. When the Mormon church decided to tear down the damaged building, the City of Rexburg jumped in and bought the building with the intent of making the building into a community performing arts center. Unfortunately vandals broke into the building during this time and lit the console on fire. So for many years the organ sat in disuse. However, during the 1990s after a community fund-raising effort, the organ was restored by H. Ronald Poll & Associates, Inc. The restoration included restoring the console and updating the organ to use SSL technology. However, the original voicing of the instrument has been left in its original condition. -Database Manager
