2014-07-17 - Frank Fowler was President of and a partner in Nye, Schneider & Fowler - a prominent commodities brokerage based in Fremont; at the end of World War I he thought grain would be in huge demand around the world, so he cornered the market - at one time controlling half the country's grain; alas, countries and people were too poor after the war to buy much grain, so he, personally, and the company lost everything; in 1930, the home was foreclosed on and went to Louis Kreymborg, who had loaned Fowler a great deal of money; the house eventually became the Good Samaritan Lutheran Hospital before it was eventually razed in the late 1950's to make room for new housing. The information comes from an article by Patti Emanuel-Vaughan in the May 1, 2006, issue of the Fremont Tribune. -Database Manager
