2014-07-17 - Updated through online information from Robert Scarborough. -- This Austin was replaced with a Schlicker circa 1965, replete with Hermann's trademark tremulant motor. The opus number for the Austin, which was junked by Schlicker, is 1958-'59, with the dedicatory recital on March 22, 1959. Gerard Faber, F.A.G.O., was organist at First Congo when the Schlicker was installed, and I do remember him saying there was another small organ (Aha! The "missing" Hutchings Op. 166 from the "old church," c. 1890) installed in the new church (1914) prior to this new Austin. I do remember the Austin as being rather subdued but quite pleasant in the "American Classic" style, while the Schlicker was not well received by congregants but loved by the local AGO cognoscenti at the time. I remember leaving the dedicatory recital for the Schlicker with a headache. I also remember there was considerable "anti-Austin" ferment amongst said cognoscenti at the time, and no further Austin installations in the area occurred. Proof of this was the loss of the contract for the "new" First Bap. of Riverside (Allessandro Blvd.), 1960s "country club" architecture) in the 1960s, which went to Schantz instead. -Database Manager
2014-08-26 - When the church website was checked on 8/26/14, the Austin was given as the organ currently used and there was no mention made about a Schlicker. -Database Manager
2022-07-20 - I have subbed at First Congregational Riverside since 2014, and the Austin is still in regular use. It was not replaced by a Schlicker. -Kenneth Rudolf
