2022-08-08 - From The National Tribune, Washington DC March 17, 1910 Lengthy article recounting a story from the Episcopal Church, Milledgeville GA. During the civil war Union troupes, took shelter in the Milledgeville Episcopal Church (St. Stephen's), while there, they vandalized the old pipe organ, including pouring molasses into the pipes. After that incident, the organ was never very usable. In 1910 the church decided to raise money for a new organ. For some reason they sent a letter to JP Morgan, financier in NY city, explaining how the old organ was damaged by Union soldiers. The letter requesting some financial help was turned over to Morgan's assistant and fixer of problems George W. Perkins. Perkins responded by telling the church to send him the bill for their new organ, which they did, and as promised he paid the bill of $2,100. -Steven Bartley
