2017-10-25 - Updated by Steven Bartley, naming this as the source of information: Baltimore Sun Paper Sept 23 1887 pg6.<br> "A handsome pipe organ has been received by the vestry of Ascension Protestant Episcopal Church, and is being erected by E. Lahaire, of Boston. The organ, which cost $1,200, is from the factory of Hook & Hastings, Boston, and will be worked by water motor. It will replace the small organ which has done service so many years, and around which clustered many happy associations. The new organ was purchased by the congregation, and will cost when completed about $1,600. The old organ was purchased by the congregation from old Trinity church, Baltimore, before the new church was erected, and of which Dr Leakin was rector. It was presented to the church by Miss Mary van Bibber, daughter of the late poet Thomas Van Bibber, of Avondale, and niece of Dr. Chew Van Bibber, of Baltimore. She afterward became wife of the rector, Rev. E. H. C. Goodwin, now chaplain at Govenor's, New York" -Database Manager
