2010-12-18 - Updated through online information from T. Bradford Willis, DDS. -- Grace Church was designed by William Cann of St. Louis; he used the same plans for the original Austin Avenue Methodist Church of Waco, Texas. -Database Manager

Bradford Willis, DDS. -- The text of the Official Texas Historical Marker is: "Grace United Methodist Church - This congregation has grown from two earlier fellowships. In 1868 Joshua Addington started a Sunday School, the beginning of the Dallas City Mission. Later the Mission formed Floyd Street Church and in 1880 Haskell Avenue Church was organized. At the North Texas Annual Conference in 1902, the two congregations merged to form Grace Methodist Church. A temporary tabernacle was erected on the back of this lot. In 1903 the first portion of this structure was completed. After remodeling in 1925, the educational unit was added." -Database Manager
2010-12-19 - Updated through online information from T. Bradford Willis, DDS. -- According to a Jan. 16, 1905 Dallas Morning News article, "Bishop E. E. Hoss preached at Grace Methodist Church yesterday....It was announced last night that a donation of $500 had been received from a local friend of the church for the pipe-organ fund. This completes the sum required for the new $5,000 pipe organ which is to be in place by next May. The organ is to have 1,500 pipes and is said to be the best that could be placed in the organ chamber at the church." <br><br>According to a July 16, 1905 Dallas Morning News article, "The large new pipe organ just completed at Grace Methodist Church, corner Junius street and Haskell avenue, will be introduced to the public next Friday at 8:15 p.m. and it is announced that a fine program has been arranged. The tenor soloist will be Leon Louis Rice of Detroit, Mich.....John T. Duncan, the concert organist, is from St. Louis. He was a pupil of Alexander Guilmant, the great pipe organist. The organ is considered one of the best instruments of the kind in the State, having twenty speaking stops and 1,300 pipes." The program is listed in the article. -Database Manager
