2014-09-02 - Updated through online information from Timothy E. Conyers. -- The choir loft and organ console are located in a "transept" to the right of congregation, with the console in a fixed position on the choir's left side and facing the congregation. The console is on a "stage" about four feet higher than the choir loft floor. The organist must climb a set of steps to reach the console. This arrangement places the organist above the heads of both the choir and congregation. The only advantage to such a perch is that it allows the organist to clearly see the entire nave and chancel area. However, it was a bit uncomfortable the first time I was a substitute organist at this instrument. One had the uneasy feeling that if you moved too much you would fall of the platform "stage." This is a small pipe organ with very few mixtures or reeds. -Database Manager
