2023-02-14 - Alterations to the organ were numerous and frequent, beginning nearly immediately after it was finished. John Schleigh of the Moller firm was dispatched to Indianapolis in the spring of 1954 to soften the voicing of the Swell principal chorus and portions of the Great and Choir divisions. The Positiv division, placed on the rear wall of the nave, proved to be so unsatisfactory that Moller agreed to pay half the cost of relocating the Sesquialtera and Zimbel to the front organ. In 1962 the remaining Positiv ranks were relocated to the front, and display pipes from stored ranks were placed on the Positiv chest for cosmetic reasons. Other ranks in storage completely disappeared. A 16' Fagot was added to the Pedal division the year preceding. Also, the Choir enclosure shades were removed, particularly so that the Great 16' Quintaton would be unenclosed. At a later date the shades were reinstalled. The Swell 8' Trornpette and Choir 8' Krummhorn were exchanged. A Swell string rank (the Echo Salicional?) was deemed "useless" and cut to 2⅔' pitch, declared unsuccessful, and removed entirely. A similar trick performed on the 8' Gemshorn Celeste yielded the same result. A new 1⅓' rank was installed instead. -- *2007 OHS Atlas* -Paul R. Marchesano
