Bradford Willis, DDS. -- According to the History of Central Christian Church Waco, Texas by Ida Moore Hays, October 29, 1945: "In 1913 Mr. Wallace Taylor...started a movement to remodel the Church building. Considerable improvements were made and in 1914 W. B. Hays and family donated a fine pipe organ to the Church....At 4:30 on a very cold morning, January 31, 1924, the historic Church building was destroyed by fire...In addition the Church collected $23,000 in insurance, a part of which was used to purchase a new pipe organ to replace the one lost in the fire which had been the gift of W. B. Hays and family.....The contract for the construction of the [new] building was let Oct. 16, 1924, to J. S. Harrison Construction Company at a price of $125,900. In addition contracts were let for the pipe organ which cost $7,500..." -Database Manager

Bradford Willis, DDS. -- The text for the Official Texas Historical Marker for Central Christian Church states: "Eighteen members of the Disciples of Christ denomination in Waco began worshipping together in homes as early as 1867. In 1870 they became charter members of a congregation organized under the leadership of the Rev. B.F. Hall, who came to Waco from Grayson County at the request of Phoebe Moore and Sallie Skidmore. The congregation held baptism services in the Brazos River. A Sunday school was organized in 1874, and a church building was erected in 1875. The congregation continues to be active in missionary and community programs." -Database Manager
