Notes

2005-06-24 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was a tonal rebuild of the existing Schuelke that had been previously electrified by Balcom & Vaughan in 1940. A 2' Octave replaced the original Great 8' Dulciana. On the Swell, a 4' Chimney Flute replaced the original Flute d'Amour (which was actually a Harmonic Flute), and a new 8' Trompette replaced the original 8' Vox Humana. Part of the Great 8' Open Diapason was moved to offset E-P unit chests to allow its borrowing to the Pedal at 8' & 4' pitches. The original 30-note 16' Bourdon was also extended with 14 new pipes for an 8' Bourdon. The SC in the opus number listing above stood for Shop Charge. -Database Manager

NOTES
The origins of the original Schuelke are unclear, but it was likely a used instrument.
Who did the original installation and when are also unknown.

The organ was electrified by Balcom and Vaughan in 1940 – which included replacing the
original tubular-pneumatic console/keydesk with a Kimball console that looks older
stylistically than 1940. It was likely used.

The 1973 work involved upgrading the console and switching to solid state, and making
two tonal changes. The Great 2' Octave replaced the original 8 Dulciana; and the Swell
8' Trompette replaced the original 8' Vox Humana.

The toeboard for the Swell 4' Flûte à Cheminee is stamped “Flute d'Amour”, but the
pipes – which appear to be original – are metal Harmonic Flute pipes, and not a stopped
wood with bored stoppers. The original Pedal compass had been 30-notes, so 14 new pipes
on a new chest were added to allow the 16'/8' Bourdon to play full-compass on an added
32-note pedalboard. The original Great 8' Open Diapason was moved from its original
chest(s) to new unit chests to permit its use in the Pedal division at 8' and 4' pitches.

The intended additions are a 2-2/3' Quinte and an 8'/4' "Reed" on the Great. The Swell
is to have an 8' Celeste, 2-2/3' Nasard, 2' Piccolo, and 1-3/5' Tierce added. Intended
additions to the Pedal were not cited on the Peterson order sheet, but it was likely
intended for borrowed reed registers.
