2005-07-09 - On-line update from James R. Stettner -- The Austin had been removed from the old church by B&V, and was to be reinstalled in the new (present) edifice. While the organ was at the B&V shop, there was a fire at the shop and the Austin console and chests were damaged beyond repair -- neccesitating the new Kilgen-style unit EP windchests and the new B&V console. -Database Manager

It had a case front of golden, quarter-sawn oak and gold façade pipes. The organ was removed from the old church by Balcom and Vaughan, and was to be re- installed on new B & V/Kilgen-style unit chests, with the exception of the 8' Vox Humana which is on its original chest. All the original ranks were retained, and the Great 8' Trumpet was added. The Austin console was also going to be retained and up- graded, but it was unexpectedly destroyed in a fire at the refinisher's shop, so a new Balcom and Vaughan console had to be built. The organ was re-installed in the rear gallery of the new church in a shallow and wide chamber at the center. The console sits to the left of the chamber, and is in a somewhat disadvantaged position since the organist can only hear the organ by opening the chamber door! The manual compasses were reduced from the original 73 notes to 68 notes, and the Swell 8' Voix Celeste has no extension at all. The shutters and relay were also added new by B&V. A new Maas-Rowe carillon/harp was added in 1995. Its controls are located in a pull- out drawer beneath the right keydesk. It plays from either the Great or the Swell. The Swell Tremulant affects the entire organ. Sources: Austin Opus List; B&V Opus List; JRS; extant organ [Received from James R. Stettner 2013-02-23.]
