2007-03-10 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was a new organ incorporating most of the previous Edgar Miles instrument. The Miles console was retained - including its rather primitive fixed, blind combination action. The Great 8' Rohr Flute, Swell Gedeckt unit, Swell IV Plein Jeu, and Swell 8' Viol Celeste were all retained from the Miles. The Viol Celeste is a former Principal rank, revoiced. The Great is mounted to the back wall over the entry to the sanctuary and under the Swell shutters. The Swell is in a chamber behind the back wall. Access is over the sanctuary roof. All windchests were new and of electro-mechanical design except for the 16' & 8' octaves of the Gedeckt which are on standard Balcom and Vaughan E-P unit chests of mahogany. Cost of the organ was $11,402.40 plus freight. The original pneumatic shutter engine was replaced with a new Peterson 8-stage electric shutter engine installed by Balcom and Vaughan in the 1990's. In 2006, the church was exploring possibilities to have the organ rebuilt and enlarged when they suddenly bought an electronic substitute. The console was given to the Pipe Organ Foundation, but the pipework sits mute and unused. -Database Manager
