2023-04-23 - Sebastian Gluck via Facebook: ERNEST M. SKINNER's sixth known instrument. This image shows Mabel de Carteret Hunt Slater, daughter of architect Richard Morris Hunt, at the keydesk of the organ built by Ernest M. Skinner in 1903. Skinner began his recorded serial numbers at No. 111, so this would have been No. 106 in his inflated opus list. The case incorporates the painting "Flight of Night" by Holman Hunt, who died shortly after the instrument was completed. Mrs. Slater, who sat for a portrait by John Singer Sargent, is depicted here possibly with friends, children, and staff. The instrument was located on the intermediate stair landing, its tone heard in both the public and private levels of the house.See images -Paul R. Marchesano
