Notes

2005-09-20 - Identified through online information from Matt Emery. -- Around 1999 - 2000, instrument was completely releathered (due to disintegrating synthetic 'leathers' original to the instrument) and the combination action was replaced with a multi-level digitalized system. I am unaware that any tonal refinishing has been done on the organ. This instrument dates from the same time period (ca. 1969) as the tracker action Schlicker instrument at the Michigan State University School of Music. Corliss Arnold, Professor of Organ at Michigan State University in this period (and author of the well-known Organ Literature: A Comprehensive Survey), was also the Director of Music at The Peoples Church of East Lansing, and so was likely highly involved in the creation of both instruments. There is a third Schlicker organ of this same period in East Lansing, the small 2 manual electric action instrument at Martin Luther Chapel (a congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod). I do not know what relationship may have existed between Arnold and that church. -Database Manager

2015-08-07 - The releathering and combination action work was completed by Fowler Organ Company. The organ has not been altered tonally (information courtesy of Brian Fowler). -Database Manager

2018-05-01 - The former organ, a 1926 3/42 Casavant, was destroyed by a fire on February 8, 1965, that originated in the organ's wiring; the sanctuary interior was rebuilt in contemporary style with 1,200 seats and a 3/47 Schlicker installed in 1967. -Database Manager
