2005-11-28 - Identified through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- The organ was installed with a minimalist stoplist, and many prepared-for registers. These were added over the years. Most of the stoptabs for speaking stops were white. Reed voices were red. And couplers were black. Installed in a single chamber on the right wall of the chancel behind a pipe case/grille. Console directly beneath. When the organ was replaced in 1983 with a new Casavant, it is reported to have been moved to a church in Texas. -Database Manager

It was designed to be 18 ranks distributed across 40 stops with the aid of extensions and borrows. It ultimately grew to 28 ranks before being replaced by a new Casavant in 1982-83. The following excerpt is taken from the August 1929 issue of the Northminster Herald, page 4, "The Pastor's Column: "The latest forward step was taken at a congregational meeting on Sunday, July 14th, when the Trustees were authorized to sign a contract with the Kilgen Organ Co. of St. Louis to install a three- manual pipe organ in our Church in time for the opening service. This organ is to be a Mother's Memorial, and everyone in the congregation will be asked to make this organ possible by adding their own Mother's name to the tablet on the organ. Whether she be living or deceased, here in Evanston or at a dis- tance, we can put their names in the list at a small cost to each one of us, and yet provide a suitable memorial to our Mothers. The resulting fund will provide us with what is so necessary to our new Church, a beautiful organ. When the Organ Committee presents a plan, we can all help and have a share in the Organ.
