2006-11-03 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was an essentially new organ on new E-M chests retaining some of the 1904 Kimball pipes. The orig. Sw. 8' Stopped Diapason was retained. The orig. Gt. 8' Dulciana was revoiced as an Unda Maris celeste against the new Sw. Gemshorn. The original Pedal 16' Bourdon was retained on its original, electrified chests. The choir loft was remodeled before the organ was installed. A wooden screen with grille cloth replaced the original facade pipes. In 1997, during a major sanctuary remodeling, the console was made moveable. The 1963 Schoenstein console had a Klann comb. action, but pneumatic couplers. Balcom and Vaughan converted the console couplers to Peterson solid state. No tonal changes were made. But the original Sforzando reversible switch was rendered inoperable during the B and V console work. The toe stud remains. -Database Manager

Construction of the present native black rock edifice began in 1902 and was completed in 1904 at which time a new 2-manual & pedal, tubular-pneumatic W.W. Kimball Co. pipe organ was installed. It had visible facade pipes and likely had an attached keydesk. In 1963, the Schoenstein firm of San Francisco built a new organ on new electro-mechanical chests. The existing Kimball pedal chests were electrified, and three original Kimball ranks were retained. The console couplers were electro-pneumatically operated, but the combination action was an electric Klann action. At the same time as the Schoenstein organ was built and installed, the choir loft was remodeled, and a large rectangular wood and cloth grille were installed to covered the organ chamber and pipes. In 1997, during a major sanctuary remodeling, the Swell division was covered and sealed. The Great and Pedal pipes were removed and stored, then re-installed and tuned in October for the re-consecration. The console was made moveable, and the original electro-pneumatically operated couplers and Klann combination action were replaced with a new Peterson solid state system. The relay, however, remains original. The work was done by John K. Moir, President of Balcom and Vaughan Pipe Organs, Inc. of Seattle along with employee Alan Villesvik. The Schoenstein Sforzando reversible switch was removed during the console coupler upgrade, but no electronic replacement switch was installed in its place. The toe stud remains.
