2021-10-09 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- The organ has not been used for a few years now. It was fully playable when we last tuned it before Christmas a few years ago. Chest leathers are starting to go. Regulators have been patched. Stoppers need to be re-leathered. Pipes could use cleaning and setting back on speech. -Jim Stettner

The original Kimball was free-standing and encased with notes 1-17 of the Great 8' Open Diapason in the façade, hence the designation, "Style 17". The keydesk was attached and projecting, and the instrument operated by means of tubular-pneumatic action. The organ was a gift of the Ladies Aid Society and cost approximately $3,000.00. At the time of the electrification in 1958, much of the original pipework was retained, and some used pipework from other sources as well as some new pipes were added. The fol- lowing analysis gives a breakdown of tonal resources as of June, 1997: 8' Open Diapason New and used pipework. Notes 1-12 appear to be stock, Durst Organ Supply pipes. Notes 13-61 are canvas-lead pipes marked, "181 2nd Diap" and are from the 1911 Austin (opus 181) origi- nally built for First Presbyterian Church in Seattle and later altered by Balcom and Vaughan. As regards the fate of the original Kimball 8' Diapason façade pipes, one story says that the pipes were mistakenly taken to the dump. 8' Melodia Used pipes of unknown provenance. The pipes are marked, “1507". The first 12 are stopped wood and offset. They are very old pipes, likely from a 19th century tracker-action organ. The caps of the open wood pipes are glued on. 8' Dulciana From the original Kimball. Notes 1-12 are on an offset chest, and the first seven are cannistered. 4' Octave From the original Kimball. This is the original 8' Open Diapason minus the missing pipes from the original speaking façade. Note f 18 is actually playing as note f# 19, so the rank has been rescaled one note larger. The first six notes are borrowed from the tenor octave of the 8' Open Diapason. The B&V files claim this was going to be a new set of 61 pipes, but that decision was evidently changed. 8' Stopped Flute Partially from the original Kimball. The 16' and 8' octaves are from the Kimball, but from 4' C up, they are new Durst Organ Supply pipes. 8' Salicional From the original Kimball. Notes 1-12 are from the original 8' Gambe. Notes 13-61 are the original Great 4' Violin. 8' Voix Celeste From the original Kimball. This is the balance of the original Swell 8' Gambe. 8' Oboe From the original Kimball. This was originally a tenor C stop, and was expanded to full-compass at the time of the electrification. A new Durst Organ Supply bass was added. The Pedal 16' Gedeckt is the same as the 16' Bourdon, but the first 12 notes are on "soft wind". The console, tremolo regulators, and most of the chests were all new. The expression louvers were used. The stopped Flute and Voix Celeste occupy a used Kimball chest, from another source. It is marked for a Vox Humana and a Rohr Flute.
