2014-02-12 - Updated through online information from Joe. -- This pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Brooklyn was restored by A.R. Schopp's Sons and Quimby Pipe Organs. The church did not have the financial resources to pay for the work so Joe Vitacco used social media and internet to tell people the story, keep them informed as to the progress. The money came in from all over the world and after 6 years the organ sounds better then anyone can really imagine. The organ was dedicated and blessed by Bishop DiMarzio of Brooklyn on Oct 18th 2013 by Olivier Latry, organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris - tickets to the dedication were sold out 2 weeks before the recital. The organ will be shared with the community. -Database Manager
2014-08-28 - Updated through online information from Dan Clayton (OHS Vice Peon). -- The organ is installed in two vertically stacked chambers in the tower, located beyond the left transept. The organ speaks through expression shades and carved wood grilles into a large choir loft at gallery level in the left transept position. The organ then speaks into the nave at the crossing through stone grills and leaded lancet windows (sans glass) set into the left nave wall. A small oriel gallery extended from the choir loft contains the organ console.
Before reinstallation of the instrument the organ chambers were repaired and replastered, sound-isolation doors installed, dirt-clogged screen wire removed from chamber and choir loft grilles, and the sound-absorbing choir loft ceiling replaced with thick plaster to reflect sound into the nave.
These comments based on personal observation as acoustic consultant working for the church during building interior repairs and restoration. -Database Manager
2015-09-13 - Updated through online information from Joe Vitacco. -- The instrument is currently in excellent condition. -Database Manager
