2007-02-19 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This was a selective rebuild with tonal changes to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the organ. No new chests were added. But original Möller ranks were replaced with new pipes - flues from Klann in Waynesboro, Virginia, and voiced by Kees DeRooy; and reeds from A. R. Schopp in Alliance, Ohio and voiced by Charles Oiesen - who also revoiced the Nason Flute. Mr. Minear did selective revoicing of existing ranks to better blend with newly added pipes. The original ivory drawknobs were buffed and re-engraved by Mr. Jack Marsh of Portland, Oregon. The Rededication Concert was held May 6, 1979 with the church's Minister of Music, James G. Welty, performing. The recital included works by J.S. Bach; 4 settings of "Herzlich thut mich verlangen" by Johann G. Walther, Johann Kuhnau, Johann Pachelbel, and Johannes Brahms; Maurice Greene; Franz J. Haydn; César Franck; Jose Lidon; Leo Sowerby; and Jean Langlais. Sadly, the organ was replaced. Some of the pipework was retained in the new Jaeckel, and other pipework went to First United Methodist in Portland. The cherry console remained local. -Database Manager
2012-06-03 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- I have a recollection of Minister of Music James G. Welty telling me that the Great 8' Second Diapason and the Swell 8' Diapason were swapped as a part of the tonal changes in 1979. -Database Manager

The Great was lower left with the Choir overhead in upper left. The Swell occupied both lower right and upper right. The Solo was perpendicular to the front wall chambers and on the left side speaking across the choir loft. The console was at the edge of the gallery rail behind a modesty screen with the organist facing the choir. For the 1979 50th Anniversary celebration of the organ, a number of tonal changes were made in consultation between Minister of Music James Graham Welty and the organ curators, Loren and Karen Minear. On the Great, the 16' Quintaton/4' Quintade unit was entirely new, replacing the original 16' Double Open/4' Second Octave unit. The IV Mixture was revised from 15-19-22-26 to 19-22-26-29 for the starting pitches. Some new pipework was incorporated. The 8' Trumpet/4'Clarion was new replacing the original 8' Tromba/4' Clarion. And the 8' Krummhorn was new, replacing the original unenclosed 8' First Diapason. On the Swell, the 8' Nason Flute replaced the original Clarabella. The 8' Viola Pomposa and Viola Celeste replaced the original 8' Viol d'Orchestre and Viol Celeste. The IV Cornet Separé was new pipework, and the chest was converted to a unit action for each rank. Illuminated pistons in the stopjamb indicated which ranks were on when the drawknob was drawn, and each could be added or subtracted at will. The 8' Trompette replaced the original 8' Cornopean. On the Choir, the 4' Koppel Flute replaced the original 4' Flute d'Amour. The “new” 1-1/3' Larigot was made from the original 2' Flageolet just moved-down on the chest. The III Cymbel replaced the original III Mixture. On the Solo, the name of the 8' Tibia Clausa was changed to 8' Flute, but no pipe changes were made. On the Pedal, the 8' Claribel Flute was added, and was made from the original Swell 8' Clarabella. It was on a new chest and took the place of the 8' Gedeckt which was an extension of the Pedal 16' First Bourdon. Those 12 extension pipes remained in place - but unused. The new flue pipework was mostly acquired from the Klann Organ Co. of Waynesboro, Virginia and was voiced by Kees DeRooy. The new reed ranks were made by A.R. Schopp's Sons, Inc. Of Alliance, OH., and were voiced by Charles Oiesen who also revoiced the added Swell 8' Nason Flute which was evi- dently recycled. The existing ivory drawknob were retained, buffed, and re-engraved by Jack Marsh of Portland, Oregon. The Re-dedication Program was played May 6, 1979 by James G. Welty. Sources: M.P.
