2007-04-29 - Identified through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ has its original the 1909 Hutchings-Votey (opus 1642) originally built for the former edifice of Temple de Hirsch in Seattle. It was rebuilt on new Kilgen-style E-P unit chests by Balcom and Vaughan for the Temple's new edifice in 1960 as their opus 680. Ultimately replaced by a new electronic organ, it was relocated to St. Dunstan's by Richard Warburton and installed without tonal changes with one exception. The Swell 8' Diapason/4'Principal unit is present and winded, but was evidently never connected - and has been sitting mute since its reinstallation. The Great was placed on new D-E chests in exposed position on either side of center on the front wall. -Database Manager
2016-11-26 - Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. <br>In an email from parish Music Dir. Susanna Valleau dated 2016-11-07, she related, "...one of our parishioners was the sexton at St D's when he was in high school and says the organ was installed in 1978." -Database Manager
2019-10-05 - According to an email from Roger Meers on October 5, 2019, the organ was removed the week of September 30, 2019 by the Pipe Organ Foundation of Mercer Island, WA. Most of the pipework was saved by the POS. Paul Fritts will be acquiring the Pedal 16' Diapason (open wood), and St. James RC Cathedral in Seattle is acquiring the Swell 8' Trumpet which is the Hutchings-Votey Cornopean. The three string ranks (Gamba, Salicional, & Celeste) are being taken by Jonathan Ortloff. Only the (tc) Dulciana and the Aeoline were discarded. -Database Manager

NOTES
The original Hutchings-Votey instrument was built for the original edifice
of Temple de Hirsch in Seattle, Washington. It was originally II-manuals,
18 voices, 20 stops, 18 ranks, and 1,189 pipes. The Great and Swell manual
compass was 61 notes, but the Swell windchests were 73 notes. The Pedal was
30 notes. The organ was electrified and rebuilt by Balcom and Vaughan for
the new Temple de Hirsch in 1960 as that firm's Opus 680. The console and
windchests were new at that time. The original Hutchings-Votey windchests
were re-used with the Austin organ at First Christian Church in Tacoma when
they built their new edifice and Balcom and Vaughan moved and enlarged the
organ.
The pipe organ was later supplanted in the Temple by an Allen electronic,
at which time Richard Warburton was contracted to remove, rebuild, and re-
install the Hutchings-Votey at St. Dunstan's. Mr. Warburton did not install
several of the 8' basses. At a later time Don Myers of Balcom and Vaughan
completed the installation.
The Great 2-2/3' Octave Quint and 2' Fifteenth are not original. The first
12 pipes of the Great 8' Open Diapason are enclosed with the Pedal, and are
Organ Supply pipes - the originals having been in the façade at the old Temple
de Hirsch. The first 12 notes of the Great 8' Gamba are borrowed from the Swell
8' Salicional. The first 12 notes of the Great 8' Gemshorn are borrowed from the
Great 8' Dulciana whose first 12 pipes are also enclosed with the Pedal. The
Great 4' Harmonic Flute was originally in the Swell division of the Hutchings-
Votey.
The first 12 pipes of the Swell flute unit are from the original Swell 16' Bour-
don. The next 73 pipes are the original Swell 8' Stopped Flute, and the 2' exten-
sion is of used pipes. The Swell 8' Oboe is exposed and non-expressive with the
Great pipework.
The Pedal 16' Diapason is original for the first 12 pipes, and was originally an
extension of the Great 8' Open Diapason. The balance is from the original Great
8' open wood flute.
Not retained from the original organ were the first 12 pipes of the Great 8' Open
Diapason, most of the Swell extension pipes (62-73), the Swell 4' Violina and 2'
Flautina, and the Pedal 16' Lieblich Gedeckt/8' Bass Flute (42 pipes).
In subsequent years, someone has transposed the Great 2-2/3' Octave Quint as a
1-1/3' Nineteenth.
St. Dunstan's contracted with the Ortloff Organ Co. of Massachusetts for a new
organ in 2019. The existing organ was removed the week of September 30, 2019 by
